Chicago Things to Do - The fun stuff you won’t want to miss.
Sport actually plays a very large part of the daily culture of Chicagoans. Besides the fields and actual games, the energetic atmosphere of the city is enough to make any couch potato want to get up and hit the batting cages.
Wrigley field where the Cubs play has a very young and excitable atmosphere, popular amongst students and avid Cubs fans alike. A trip to Chicago during the season probably wouldn’t be complete without catching a game and eating one of Chicago’s famous hot dogs (ps. no ketchup!).
U.S. Cellular field, where the White Sox play, is a child friendly park where kids can watch a ball game and join in on some fun activities to keep the amusement going. It’s easier to get tickets to a Sox game, rather than the Cubs, and you get discounted tickets on Mondays and Tuesdays. Thursdays is $1 hot dog day, yeahh!
Soldier Field is the home field of the Chicago Bears football team and the United Center houses the Chicago Bulls basketball team. This center also is home to the NHL’s Blackhawks, so there’s a load to see there.
If you’re not much into the sport side of things and would prefer a classic Chicago experience, sailing might be the thing for you. A summer afternoon on Lake Michigan is just as lovely as it sounds (as long as you don’t venture too far, the lake is famously treacherous amongst even the most experienced of sea dwellers). If you don’t have a boat, there are plenty of water taxis that can ferry you between your destinations or you can do a water tour through many various companies.
Chicago is also where the infamous Al ‘Scarface’ Capone created his headquarters after moving from New York and went from small time crook to a notorious crime figure. Capone ruled this city until he was arrested for tax evasion in the 1930’s, not the countless murders they also tried to pin on him.
Celebrating the man who made Chicago dark and sexy, Untouchable Times and Tours offer a fun and lighthearted look at Capone, and the Prohibition era surrounding his reign. They’ll take you around to all sorts of interesting sites (murder sites included) and you’ll get to see the seedy underbelly of Chicago in the 1930’s.
Also on the dramatic side of things, you probably already know that Chicago is world famous for its high class theatre, musical and dance performances. Tickets can go for half price if you book at the last minute, and there are loads of places to find a quick bargain, like www.hottix.org. You can always find tickets to the hottest musicals, theater, opera, orchestra and ballet in this city, so if you’re a culture buff, you probably won’t want to ever leave. If you’re looking for somewhere to start, (quite obviously) the Downtown Theatre District is where you need to be.
