Key West Lodging

Key West has a notably mild, tropical-maritime climate in which the average temperatures during the winter are only 14 degrees lower than in summer. This agreeable climate is one of the main reasons that Key West is a popular travel destination. As Key West is also a seaport destination for many passenger cruise ships, there are myriad lodging options available here.

Hotels, bed & breakfasts, cabins or hostels? You can have your pick. Key West has them all. Several hotels in all price ranges provide sleeping accommodations on a room or suite basis. The hotel front desks provide a host of customer services. Each guest room comes equipped with a private bath. Several of the hotels offer additional facilities like a pool, exercise room or sauna; in-house restaurants and other facilities.

Bed and breakfasts are another popular option that provides short-term lodging in private homes. To cater to the high public demand, several small buildings have been converted for this purpose. Bed and breakfasts are usually run by the building owner or by an operator on his behalf. The number of rooms in a bed and breakfast is generally limited. The room rate covers a continental or full breakfast, depending on the bed and breakfast’s preferences.

Resorts are a very comfortable lodging option in the Key West. Resorts are basically hotels that add several amenities on their own premises and offer a self-contained vacation experience to their guests. Resorts cater mainly to vacationers or tourists and do not encourage overnight travelers. The various attractions offered by resorts include access to a beach and/or a lake, golf courses, tennis courts, etc. All inclusive packages specifying activities are offered to tourists with varying payment options.

Fully furnished houses and condominiums that come with full kitchens and laundry facilities are also an excellent lodging option. These are known as vacation homes. Similar facilities are often offered by hotels. Such hotels are referred to as extended stay suites and hotels. They generally offer weekly or monthly packages.

Another option available is inns, which fall into a category between hotels and bed & breakfast. Inns may or may not serve food and it is good to check in advance if you anticipate the need for in-house meals.
